Each week we release improvements to the site. Here is what changed, newest first.
2.3.0 — 2026-10-31 — Easier to tap on phones, quicker ways to your city, and firms back in their messages
This week was about phones: links and buttons across the directory, profiles, the glossary and the account pages became full-size tap targets, and new shortcuts take you to your state or to a practice area in your city without long scrolling. Firms can upgrade a free listing through PayPal, read their conversations again, and get pages that show their names correctly.
For people looking for a lawyer:
- On phones, the home page and the lawyers hub have a "jump to your state" picker, and city pages have a "find a lawyer by practice area" picker right under the heading.
- Listings, breadcrumbs, the footer, the search button, the menu button and the city "Browse lawyers" links are now large enough to tap comfortably; the request form's fields no longer make iPhones zoom, and its "Start Chatting!" button is full size.
- A search that finds nothing now links the city page you named (and its practice-area page when you named one), and the search box finds glossary entries from their first few words.
- Glossary answers that name a state link straight to that state's firms, and the common-law marriage entry gains a New York answer.
For law firms:
- A firm on the free plan can upgrade a listing from its dashboard or the pricing page through a secure PayPal checkout that shows the plan, term and total before you pay.
- Firms can read their conversations with consumers again after a fault that blocked them, and a firm that writes in about access to its page gets its page moved to the account at its own website's domain once that is confirmed.
- Firm names and descriptions that carried accented or special characters show them correctly on profiles and directory pages instead of question marks.
- Featured blocks show only firms on a premium plan, and a firm that has closed can have its page retired on request.
Behind the scenes:
- Pages load fewer unused scripts and smaller pictures on phones, and we closed several security gaps in the account and payment pages.
2.2.0 — 2026-10-24 — Cleaner directory pages, lighter pages on phones, and a simpler way for firms to renew
This week we cleaned up the directory so visitors see real, working firms, made pages lighter and quicker on phones, and gave firms a direct way to renew a listing through PayPal from their renewal email or dashboard. We also hardened security across the firm account area.
For people looking for a lawyer:
- Directory pages no longer show firms that have removed themselves, firm pictures that were really error or "domain for sale" pages, or links to firm websites that are parked or gone.
- When a city has no firm for a practice area, the page says so plainly; when the only nearby firms are in other cities, it names those cities.
- Search understands everyday phrasing better: "near me" searches, two-letter state abbreviations, glossary terms, and a search for free or low-cost help now points to our legal aid page.
- On phones, listings keep each firm's phone number near its name, the call button sits higher on profile pages, and long website addresses no longer push the page sideways.
For law firms:
- Renewing a listing is one step: the Renew button in your renewal email, and a Pay with PayPal button on your dashboard, open a secure PayPal checkout for that listing. Listings that already renew automatically are never asked to pay twice.
- A firm on the free plan that opens the checkout is told exactly where to upgrade from the dashboard.
- A firm that has retired or closed can ask, from the address on its account, to have its page taken down, and we take care of it.
- Agencies managing several firms get clear answers on how listings, offices and claims work.
Behind the scenes:
- Profile, directory and home pages download less on phones: spam-check and review widgets load only when you reach them, and unused scripts and stylesheets are gone.
- Security improvements across the firm account area.
2.1.0 — 2026-10-17 — Easier to read on a phone, faster replies, and a new way for firms to pay
This week we made LawyerLand easier to read and use on a phone, got requests to law firms out within the hour instead of days, and opened a secure PayPal checkout for firms upgrading their listing. We also answered questions people sent us and tightened privacy across messaging and accounts.
For people looking for a lawyer:
- When you send a request to a firm, it now reaches the firm within the hour; if the firm only takes calls, we email you its direct phone number within the hour too.
- Directory and profile pages read better on a phone: each listing shows the firm's name, address and phone before its picture, each firm appears once per page, offices show a Directions link, and buttons and links are clearer and easier to read.
- The legal glossary answers more of the questions people ask by state (for example dog bites, common-law marriage, gift cards, vehicle repossession and transfer-on-death deeds), and the definition or state picker now starts on the first screen of a phone.
- A new edition of our research on how readable each state's official statute websites are.
For law firms:
- Firms can now upgrade their own saved listing through a secure PayPal-hosted checkout; no card details pass through LawyerLand.
- Profile claims are now reviewed on evidence from your own website or profile, so a genuine claim moves forward without waiting.
- Messages and conversation links only open for the person they belong to, and a conversation link that has expired now explains what to do.
- Pages for law firms (pricing, sign-in, register, the account area) have clearer buttons and readable links.
Behind the scenes:
- Pages download faster on phones, and profile pictures load only when you scroll to them.
